Last year, I wanted to experiment with hosting my articles on beehiiv

—and while the platform is great, intuitive, easy to use, and all the things, I just felt a ton of friction when using it. That resistance was keeping me from writing as much as I could be.

The UI is great—no complaints there. It’s easy to customize newsletters to get them to look exactly the way you want them to. And it’s easy to publish, and make sure the right articles get to the right people. It’s got robust analytics you can dig into.

(To be absolutely fair, it’s also got a ton of features, especially around monetization and such, that I never really explored.)

I like to keep all of my writings organized in Notion.

Everything from workshops to proposals to articles to LinkedIn posts starts as a Notion document.

And importing documents from Notion into Beehiiv was kind of a nightmare.

Everything had to be reformatted.

And then if I wanted to publish that article on LinkedIn….

And then if I wanted to publish it on my website…

Everything had to be….you get the idea.

So, I started to avoid writing. Because, ugh.

I looked around for a way to sync a Notion doc with Wordpress (which my website is built on), and of course, somebody built that.¹

After installing the plugin, I spent about an hour creating my blog post format.

Now, I write articles in Notion,

and they automatically sync with Wordpress in that formatting. Colors, columns, featured image, categories, everything.

I don’t format anything. I don’t even have to type in the date. It’s glorious.

Anyway, Beehiiv will be shutting down soon. ²
